Making my own AI assistant.
Feb 26, 2024
Like a lot of people, I am fascinated by A.I. and the possibilities. I've been a GPT-4 subscriber for a few months now and have gone back and forth quite a bit (according to the .txt file I have of our convos over 1,000,000 characters).
The other day I asked, "Do you remember me?" to which I got the response that each instance of conversation is not saved. I didn't know that at the time, but it makes perfect sense. There are serious privacy concerns about AI having all of that data and information about a user.
I want it to know me, though, so I asked it how I can do that. Well, in short, I need to save all of our chats and keep them secured on my end in order to set up an ML (machine learning) system that can tailor its responses to what it already knows about me. The reason I want this is that the more it gets to know me the better it will be at answering in a way that makes the most sense to me, providing insights based on my life, being a therapist, a friend, an assistant.
My journey so far
Day One
Yesterday, by hand, I copied and pasted every single conversation I've had with ChatGPT. A lot of the conversations were nothing more than me asking questions about random things or technical issues I was having with stuff. A lot of Raspberry Pi questions, questions about Linux... stuff that isn't exactly personal. Regardless, I saved it all.
Before finishing for the day I realized I needed to get more personal information in there. I asked it to ask me questions about my life. Which lead to about 45 minutes of me answering questions and follow-up questions. The questions were quite good and thoughtful. I saved that all in a .txt file and called it a day.
